Can't smelt with a cold

Bowdoinhammer - Week of January 27th to February 2nd

Happy new week to you Bowdoinhammer!

I’m sorry for keeping it short this week but I’ve had one helluva cold. I’m doped to the gills and all I want to do is sleep.

Speaking of gills… It’s good to see Jim’s shacks on the river this year, just in time for the Ice & Smelt festival.

The Highlights for this week:

  1. If you’re looking to join the Loose Ladies Book Group discussion on February 20th, you’ll want to dig into “James” by Percival Everett when you get a chance.

  2. The Select Board meeting is on Monday this week instead of Tuesday. It’s also a Zoom only meeting.

  3. Also on Monday, there’s Trivia at the Pub and the Quarterly Library Board meeting at the library. Hey. Maybe board meetings would be better if they had trivia and served beer! I don’t know. I’m on cold medication right now.

  4. A 3-part seminar hosted by the Comprehensive Planning Committee starts on Wednesday. This one is called Trees in Your Backyard.

  5. The Ice & Smelt Festival kicks off on Friday with a Potluck Supper followed by Storytelling hosted by the Bowdoinham Public Library.

  6. The festival continues on Saturday with a Warming Station at Cathance River Gallery, a Bruce Muir exhibit at the MAC Gallery, and another Potluck followed by dancing at Watersong.

  7. Festivities conclude on Sunday with Chocolate Tasting at the Fire Station with Church of the Nazarene, Snacks and Cocoa at the Snack Shack with Age-Friendly Bowdoinham, Take-out Soup Supper at the Bowdoinham Food Pantry, and Open Mic night at Watersong with Merrymeeting Arts Center.

There’s more information about these and other events below, so keep scrolling.

All mistakes and bad jokes are the fault of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine (not an official sponsor).

Have a good one.
