Good Goats!
Bowdoinhammer - Week of July 28th to August 3rd
What’s up, Bowdoinhammer?
I came up with a new idea for Open Farm & Studio Day: Traveling animal farm.
Farmers bring their animals to your house. I don’t know exactly how this will work, but I think there’s something of an idea there.
It came to me (literally) on Wednesday when my neighbor’s goats came over for a visit.

Honey and Ivy
They were on a neighborhood walkabout. Don’t worry. They made it safely home.
Let’s get on with it, shall we?
New Challenges For Our Food Pantry
Our Bowdoinham Food Pantry has shared an important update on new operating challenges.
They've discovered a significant gap in their ability to provide frozen meat, as recent federal policy changes and a decrease in supplier donations mean their key source is no longer available.
This creates a new financial hurdle, potentially requiring them to purchase meat.
To rally around this vital local resource, any additional financial support from the community would be deeply appreciated right now.
Remember, shelf-stable donations are also gratefully accepted at the Bowdoinham Post Office (any time) or at the Pantry on Wednesdays (12-4 PM).
Let's continue to show our support for the Pantry, which relies almost entirely on our community to feed friends and neighbors in Bowdoinham and Bowdoin.

"No one has ever become poor by giving."
There's always something to keep us on our toes, isn't there?
I recently encountered a crafty scam, receiving a text from "Maine DMV" about unpaid traffic citations. The initial confusion ("When did I get a ticket?!") quickly turned to suspicion upon seeing an undeniable fake link.
I deleted the message, but the story didn't end there! A wider “scam-paign” was confirmed by posts on Reddit and a public statement from the Secretary of State in early June.
The Secretary's statement highlights crucial points to keep in mind:
Official government agencies rarely use text for serious matters, preferring mail.
If a message seems questionable, always verify its truthfulness by contacting the official source directly (using a number you look up yourself!).
It's vital never to click on a link or provide identifying/financial information in response to unsolicited calls or texts.
If they push for urgency, waving threats of quick consequences, it's almost certainly a scam.
Be aware, and don't click on links from unsolicited messages.
