Postcards are the best.

Bowdoinhammer - Week of April 22nd to the 28th.

Dearest Bowdoinhammer,

It’s a wonderful day when you get mail that isn’t a bill or some other junk. We just LOVE getting postcards. Poland is great and all, but they’ve never sent us a postcard like our friends on the west coast. Our little town is popular all over the place. Check this out:

postcard from Alyson Jacks

This one is from our friend Alyson Jacks. The scan doesn’t do it any favors but the image on the front says “Down River (Kennebec, Summer 2022)”.

The back says:

“Dear Bowdoinhammer,

Our first stay in Bowdoinham was the summer of 2008. Back then, we found a cottage rental on Craigslist, located just off River Road. We’ve returned many times, enjoying our stays with our now dear friend Jeanine Beaudoin.

We love our time in Bowdoinham: Saturday farmer’s market, card games, cocktails, trips to the Recycle Barn, kayaking, hiking nearby trails, and time with new and old friends. Bowdoinham has become our 2nd home.

I bring my bicycle each trip, enjoying rides on the many beautiful backroads. A favorite is the Pork Point Road to Browns Point Road, up to River Road, pulling in at the Bowdoinham Store for a coffee and the newspaper. On the way home, there are stops to Six River and Fairwinds Farms, and always time at the bridge to watch the Abagadasset wind its way to Merrymeeting Bay.

Bowdoinham is the best! We proudly wear our Bowdoinham t-shirts and baseball caps wherever we go. We love you!”

Alyson Jacks & Wendy Miller, San Francisco, CA

Thanks Alyson and Wendy. We love you, and hope to see you around this summer.

If you would like to participate, Send a postcard with your sentiment/story/poem about Bowdoinham to PO Box 181, Bowdoinham, ME. 04008.

When we get more postcards, we’ll setup a website to display them. The ultimate goal is to make better scans and reprint them for a show at Merrymeeting Arts Center.
