Bowdoinhammer - Week of August 12th to the 11th.
Dear Bowdoinhammer,
Sadly, this will be the last edition of the Bowdoinhammer newsletter.

There’s about fifty reasons why, but I’m not an “excuses” guy. Just know that Tessa and I have very much enjoyed creating this little project and watching it grow, but schedules have changed and it’s no longer something we will have time to do well.
My grandfather always said that there’s a lesson to be learned in every endeavor. Here’s what we’ve learned about community organizing with this project: (If you’re not a community organizer or a business owner, feel free to skip these five bullet points.)
Our community wants to know what’s happening in the ‘ham. They seek out this information and want to be involved. They will show up to your event if they know about it. The information needs to be accessible and well in advance.
Facebook is horrible. I’m not saying you shouldn’t use it, but you should NOT rely on it. It’s great at connecting you with old and new friends, but you should always remember that the primary function of Facebook is to feed ads to its users. Your event information is buried in other things the algorithm thinks are more important. The best way to use Facebook is to funnel that traffic to your website where you have full control over your information. If Facebook is your website, you’re just shooting yourself in the foot.
So many organizations in town have a website with a calendar or event listings that are underutilized or inaccurate. If you are going to list your organization’s activities: update, update, update.
Letting people know about changes or cancelations to your event is just as important as announcing the event in the first place. If someone is looking for more information about something they heard about, only to find that the information for the event was simply deleted, how likely are they to trust your organization in the future?
Getting people to know about your event is easier if the information is consistent and constant.
We’re not doing the highlights this last time, so we’ll just jump right into what’s happening this week:

(These events may change or cancel without notice)
I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
Once again, it’s been a pleasure interacting with this community.
Thanks for reading.
We’ll see you around.
Love,
Rodney & Tessa
