Turtles be slow.

Bowdoinhammer - Week of June 10th to the 16th

Hi there, Bowdoinhammer!

It’s that time of year again. Driving carefully and avoiding hitting turtles crossing the road is really important, especially in a town like Bowdoinham where both people and turtles love to be.

Turtles play a big role in keeping our ecosystems healthy, and many of them are already struggling because of habitat loss and pollution. Plus, it's said to be 20 years of bad luck if you crush one with your car! By being mindful of these little guys, not only do we help preserve their populations, but we also make our roads safer and kinder for everyone.

So next time you’re driving around Bowdoinham, keep an eye out for turtles and help make sure they get to where they’re going safely.

I’ve never had highlights in my hair. They’re all here…

  1. Don’t forget to VOTE on Tuesday. After that, you can probably catch the Comprehensive Planning Committee and/or the Select Board meeting. I bet you never thought you’d see so much democracy all in one day.

  2. If you’re an early bird who likes to run, you can catch the newly formed running club in action on Wednesday morning. Not Your Mother’s Garden Club will likely burn fewer calories at their meeting later in the day.

  3. Public School kiddos may be singing a specific Alice Cooper song on Thursday (it will be a half day). Cribbage will be held at the John C. Coombs Municipal Building because Age-friendly Bowdoinham will discuss world domination at their monthly luncheon at the Fire Station.

  4. Saturday will be the day to check out a couple of cool things down by the waterfront… Bowdoinham Rowing will be hosting a Social Rowing Event that should be interesting to folks who are curious about what they do. Also, MAC will be hosting a bowl-making workshop (we did the coffee mug workshop and it was worth every penny).

  5. You should call your dad on Sunday (or any father-like figure).

There’s some more information about these and other events down below, so keep scrolling.

This is a new section called “Changes”. We’ll list the changes and cancelations that we’ve noticed in the various calendars and general scuttlebutt.

  • The Town Hall Committee meeting moved from Wednesday, June 26th to Wednesday, June 12th. Same time and place.

  • The Guilt-free Book Club meeting has been moved from Thursday, June 27th to Wednesday, June 26th, to allow members to attend Lisa Wesel’s screening of “Invisible”). Same time and place.

  • Storytime for Preschoolers and their Grown-ups with Miss Kate has moved from Tuesdays at the library to Saturdays at the Farmers’ Market. Same time.

A special note to event organizers: It’s just as important to announce changes/cancelations as it is to announce the event in the first place.

There were quite a few people at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday. We forgot how much we missed it. I spent all our bread on bread so I’ll have to go back when TheShacForge is there again. That dude has some cool iron wares. Father’s Day is coming up, and some fathers like metal things that look like badass dragons.
