Bowdoinhammer - Week of November 6th to the 12th.

How many of you Bowdoinhammers listen to podcasts?

I love a podcast called Rumble Strip. It’s made for Vermont Public Radio, but I like to pretend it’s local. They recently made an episode called Ode to Village Life that I feel represents most small towns. It was interesting and charming and only 11 minutes long. When you click on the link, you’ll be taken to the episode page, and it has a built-in player so you can listen to it without having to figure out how to download podcasts.

. . .

Tuesday’s my favorite “Day that should be a Federal Holiday, but isn’t". My Grandfather was as hard-core as most people who lived through the depression and a world war. He would have these lectures queued up for just about any occasion that he thought was a teachable moment. I’ve forgotten most of them over time, but one that stuck with me was this one:

You have three very important duties as an American: be informed, pay your taxes, and VOTE!

my grandfather

Responsible democracy in a nutshell. I’m sure everyone else heard a grandparent lecture that was like that. I suppose it’s our job to pass that lesson on to our kids and grandkids.

. . .

Once we get enough of them, we'll have a gallery exhibit at Merrymeeting Arts Center.
